Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a website hosting server and a client. As the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of controlling a website hosting account. The commands that may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the alternatives are limited as you will not have root access to the hosting server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. These are all actions which are executed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a variety of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting
In case you have a cloud website hosting account with us and you'd like to manage your content remotely via SSH, you could get SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package does not provide this feature by default, you may add it with a couple of mouse clicks from the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You may also choose what password you would want to use, considering that it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared several Help articles where you may find each of the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they're used. Additionally, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to obtain SSH access to it with just a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your plan doesn't support this function by default, you will be able to add it easily through the Upgrades menu. When you go to the SSH section, you'll find the details you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, if required. These login credentials are also essential if you would like to upload files via a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we provide you with. A detailed list of the commands you can execute will give you a better idea of what tasks you could perform in your account and each one is accompanied by several instances of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS
The virtual private server plans we offer include SSH access by default, not as an additional upgrade or a function that you have to enable. As soon as your new server is prepared, you'll be able to connect and start working on your content via the login details that you've entered through the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials will be sent to you via email as well. Since your VPS will be isolated from the others on the physical web server, there aren't any limitations in regards to what you can or can't do using SSH. You'll be able to download, install and manage any piece of software that'll run on a Linux server, reboot your entire server or simply a specific software component, and work with files, folders and databases with no restrictions. All you will require for this is a console or an SSH client on your end.
